Background
The European Union's Artificial Intelligence Act is designed to ensure that artificial intelligence is developed, deployed and used safely. In its 31 July 2026 Daily News notice, the European Commission says its AI Office, working with national authorities, will begin enforcing the Act on 2 August 2026. The same date brings new transparency requirements for certain AI systems and for content generated or altered by AI.
The Commission says the measures are intended to reduce deception and manipulation, help people make informed choices, and give businesses clearer obligations and a practical way to show compliance. The notice also says the Commission published a first list of more than 180 organisations that signed the Code of Practice on transparency of AI-generated content.
On 2 August 2026, enforcement of the Act and the new transparency rules begin together. The notice gives the timetable and describes the core requirements.
